Express Entry
Express Entry is an online system that is used to manage immigration applications from skilled workers.
Express Entry is not an immigration program in itself, but rather a system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to select skilled workers for immigration to Canada based on different factors.
There are 3 immigration programs managed through Express Entry:
● Canadian Experience Class
● Federal Skilled Worker Program
● Federal Skilled Trades Program
How the Express Entry process works:
1. Create a profile and enter the pool.
2. IRCC will invite the candidates with the most points in rounds.
3. If you’re invited to apply, fill out the application.
4. IRCC will review your application and make a decision.
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) criteria
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that we use to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool.
The total CRS score can reach up to 1,200 points, divided among core human capital attributes, skill transferability, and additional factors. The breakdown differs slightly depending on the specific program and applicant’s circumstances.
Candidates Without a Spouse or Common-Law Partner
● Up to 500 points can be awarded for core human capital factors, which include age, education, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience.
● Up to 100 points are available for skill transferability factors, which assess the interaction between education, work experience, and language skills.
● Up to 600 additional points may be granted for factors such as: A provincial nomination, valid job offer, Canadian education credentials, having a sibling in Canada, demonstrated French language proficiency.
Candidates With a Spouse or Common-Law Partner
● Up to 460 points are allocated for the principal applicant’s core human capital factors.
● An additional 40 points are available for the spouse or partner’s core human capital factors, such as education, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience.
● Up to 100 points can be earned through skill transferability.
● Up to 600 points remain available for additional factors (as listed above).
